Non-Custodial Parent
This June, a non-custodial parent made a great turn-around in her diligence with attending visits at the Valued Visits program. The case began approximately one year ago when mom visited her three and five year old boys. During an eight-month period of visitation, Mom missed several visits due to difficult circumstances in her personal life. Her two children were unable to see her when she cancelled visits, which disappointed them very much.
When the Valued Visits staff questioned mom about her repetitive cancellations, Mom admitted that she suffered from depression and was unable to manage the stress in her life. The Valued Visits staff then suggested three counseling resources and advised her to let them know if the resources were helpful. Mom followed through with seeking counseling and within two months of receiving treatment for her mental health issues, mom also regained stability in her visitation schedule with her boys. Visits were no longer cancelled and the boys got to see their mother.
Just recently, mom thanked the Valued Visits staff for the counseling resources and she said she found one of them particularly helpful. She also thanked the staff for being patient with her circumstances, hearing her struggles and caring enough to follow through with assistance. Mom continues to steadily visit her children and the children joyfully greet mom with a big smile each time they visit.
